Here is how to solo Litecoin or Novacoin or Bitcoin or Fairbrix or etc, etc, etc. on Windows 7/8

This HOW-TO assumes you are already familiar with mining on a pool, and want to mine solo. It also assume you are familiar with directories/folders in Windows and have file extensions visible. Repeat, you must have file extensions visible.

1. Download and install the qt-client

2. Navigate to the working directory of the coin you want to mine.
Code: [Select]
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Litecoin
OR
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\NovaCoin
etc.
In these example, I use "Administrator" as my Windows User Name. Make sure to use your own user name.

3. Create a new text file in this folder. Name the file after the coin you are mining, like this:
Code: [Select]
litecoin.conf
OR
novacoin.conf
etc.

4. Open the new file in Notepad.

5. Copy all the following and paste in to the conf file and save:
Code: [Select]
rpcuser=Carnth
rpcpassword=password
rpcallowip=192.168.*.*
rpcport=9332
daemon=1
server=1
gen=0
(This assumes your Local network (LAN) in on 192.168.X.X IP addresses. Most home routers use these IP addresses.)

6. Load up the qt-client. Let it catch up to the current block.

7. Setup your miner as usual, but using these settings:
Code: [Select]
url=http://127.0.0.1:9332
user=Carnth
password=password
Novacoin on cgminer may require "-e 1"

If you want, you can change the Username and Passwords in the conf file to whatever you want. The only thing that matters is that you use the same user and password on your conf file and miner.

Also note:
Solo mining does not give you "accepts" unless you find a block. That's right! Every "accept" is an actual block that you found, so be patient. Other than that, you don't get much feedback so you may think something is not working.
When you do find a block, they will show up in your QT client AFTER the next 1 or 2 blocks found after yours.

   I did everything. It works, but instead of Kh / s I have Mh / s. I have to make a .bat file (with - scrypt) so that I Kh / s? Where to put the e-1?

Make sure you have everything setup, just like mining Litecoin (with the -scrypt)

Try adding the -e 1 after the -scrypt.

I tried this, but will not:
-cgminer --scrypt -o -e 1 http://192.168.n.n:9332/ -u Lucky -p 167 --thread-concurrency 5600  --gpu-threads 2 --intensity 13 --lookup-gap 2 --worksize 128 -g 4
-cgminer --scrypt -e 1 http://192.168.n.n:9332/ -u Lucky -p 167 --thread-concurrency 5600  --gpu-threads 2 --intensity 13 --lookup-gap 2 --worksize 128 -g 4
Works with scrypt, but no e-1 and show the wrong diff (728 K).

Have you ever got Novacoin mining on a pool? Have you tried solo with Litecoin first?
It's easier to get it working on Litecoin. Once you get that working, then try Novacoin.

  Again the same. Shows Kh / s (that's fine) but still shows the wrong diff (680). Diff should be 10.  If  do not --scrypt then the diff is good but gives Mh / s.

  I am a solo mining terracoin. Litecoin'll try when I update the litecoin wallet.

pro-tip: Mh/s is better than Kh/s.
Mh/s = (Mega)millions of hashes per second. Kh/s = (Kilo)thousands of hashes per second.

example:Do you want a million litecoins or a thousand litecoins?

But in the case of cgMiner... you need to run with  --scrypt option to use the correct algorithm otherwise you're just mining millions of invalid hashes.

Thanks for starting this thread - it has answered my question on why I'm not getting any accepts from minerd yet.

My question - is it better to use the LTC client GUI or daemon for solo mining?

It doesn't matter. At least not in my setups.

How do you connect multiple computers to do solo mining?
