i am a little on the go and have no compiler setup in windows right now...

I noticed something strange about sgminer (or maybe something else):

I am using the windows version and when I VNC into that machine sgminer does not accept the "return" key.

e.g. I press G for gpu menu, then I for intensity, then it asks me to select which gpu, I press 0. But then I cannot hit enter... it is stuck on that screen.
also started to reboot, and tried cgminer (which works).

any Idea, what could cause this?

The experimental intensity stuff is interesting!

For my R9 290, I have used intensity 20, which gives stable 898kh/s average. On intensity 21 I get slightly over 900kh/s, but much more rejects. I think this is because the hashing function takes double time with +1 intensity, right? So when block changes it is more likely that the GPU is still hashing the old block.

290 has 2560 shaders, so equivalent value for intensity 20 should be 409.6.. I tried 410, and it gives exactly the same hashrate, as expected.

But if I lower xIntensity to 400, I get 901kh/s and less rejects than with I20! I guess there is similar "sweet spot" finding necessary now with all my other gpu's as well.. :)

400 seems to be the magic value, any lower or higher will lower the hashrate.

Edit: bah, also 380 gives 900kh/s+, but 390 is slower.. :D This is going to take the whole day trying to find optimum.. :)

i also didn't find any hashrate improvements in other scrypt.cl versions...
I guess there is some kind of "max" in the cards... if you get it, there is not much improvement...

I get the same results with I20/21 as you.
for my hynix cards I stick with I20, with elpdia cards I am at I21, so I get around 900 on hynix and 896 on elpdia

Yes. I have tested quite a lot of them. The different version can give speedup in some low end cards, but any modern card (R9 series, 7970) are best with stock scrypt.cl or the very minor optimizations that I have made.. Any bigger change usually results in reduced hashrate.

agree...

most improvements I made by finding proper TC values for different cards (mostly memory type), and corresponding I levels....

Looks like either I'm doing something wrong or the per GPU --gpu-threads patch isn't working quite right:

[16:00:15] Invalid config option --gpu-threads: '2,1,2' is not a number

you have to use " instead of '

it is working for me (as far as I can see)

Are you using it on the command line? I was simply using a config file with all my settings in (JSON files use double quotation marks, I have no idea why cg/sgminer prints errors using single quote marks)

another issue (that may also have been in cgminer)

after I run my quad R290 rigs for a couple of hours, the WU will go from 800 to e.g. 12,000 or 15,000 on all cards.
Any Idea what might cause this? rest ist stable, hasing is proper...

That's correct. With your numbers getting work back from the GPU takes 2^I / rate = 2^20 / (901 * 10^3) = 2.3276s

That's because xI * shaders /  rate = 400*2560 / (901 * 10^3) = 1.1365s

This x intensity stuff is a godsend. Commit log shows a raw intensity has been added recently. Haven't given that a shot yet, but given the shader denominator I don't think it'll make much of a difference.

How do I enable xintensity?  Do I need to recompile or is it simply putting xintensity in the config file?  I am currently on 4.0.0

Sorry I am noob.

either recompile or take an uptodate binary, like the one two posts above...

Thank you for all of the work.  I've been having a hell of a time with stale shares exceeding 7%.  With the addition of xI, I'm getting the same hashrate however with VERY few stales.

I'm a little confused on how to determine the "best" xI setting for r9 290x Elpida.  I assumed that it would be in the 400 range, however to get my cards back near the same hash as I-21 (917k) I've found that I need to be around 550 (910k).  I'm still tinkering.
