HELP! Mining settings for XFX 7950
« on: July 10, 2013, 10:48:36 PM »
I am new to mining and I am building a rig with 2x XFX Radeon 7950. Should I use cgminer or reaper? What settings should I use to get the optimal hashrate?

I do not have XFX 7950, but I read somewhere else that XFX are no good

People seems to be saying that the Sapphire cards are the most suitable for tweaking

Reaper is old news. Use cgminer. 425khs is pretty bad for a 7950, though not sure what the XFX 7950 is capable of, no one really uses those for mining.

post your settings and I'm sure people will chime in with recommendations.

Using cgmiiner 3.3.4 on xubuntu 13.04.Stock clocks however one keeps running overvolted to 1.125v. Thread concurrency 8192. Auto fan temp target 70.

what is your intensity? I know my 7950's use thread concurrency of 24,000.

Use intensity 20. Overclock to at least 1100 core. Don't overclock memory. They might be unlocked so set them to 1.1v first, then 1.125 if they can't do it. Monitor your temps, though it's mostly the VRM that's the issue for 7950s.

What XFX cards do you have? Reference cards are seriously bad, from any brand.

I use intensity 13 because usually anything over or under homes me less kh. However, I'll still try that combo. Also when I overclock even to 900 MHz the voltage will automatically go to 1.250 v which is too much for me.

And I set them to temp target 70 and they usually stay around 68-69.

That's how these GPUs work. As long as your temps are normal, use at least 1000 core.

I would but I'm afraid that 1.250 v would shorten the lifespan of the gpu.

Are you currently using BAMT? SMOS is the same thing, just the name is replaced.

If you really want to set up Linux properly, just follow this: http://www.lurkmore.com/wiki/Debian_Linux_cryptocoin_mining_rig_setup

No I am using Xubuntu 13.04. I tried BAMT but the same proplem. When I overclock it auto overvolts to 1.25v. I think that voltage will reduce it's lifespan. Even if I don't overclock that card it stays at 1.125. But if I do 850 instead of 800 it will stick to 1.125v.

As I said, that's how 7950s with "Boost" work.
