Setting up a config file for cgminer
« on: September 20, 2012, 10:59:02 PM »
Hey guys, since there's no example for a Litecoin mining config file for cgminer, I've decided to write an example:

Code: [Select]
{
"pools" : [
{
"url" : "http://www.ulr.com:port",
"user" : "user",
"pass" : "pass"
}
],

"intensity" : "13, 17",
"gpu-engine" : "0-800, 0-850",
"gpu-thread" : "2, 2",
"scrypt" : true,
"api-listen" : true,
"shaders" : "800, 960",
"thread-concurrency" : "1600, 2400",
"lookup-gap" : "2, 2"
}

I've made an imaginary example of a situation where you have 2 GPU on your rig. I've also put all the settings possible, but you don't have to include them all:
"api-listen" is there for those using BAMT only
"shaders" will determine an automatic "thread-concurrency"
"thread-concurrency" will override the "shaders" option. Putting both is useless.
"lookup-gap" is at 2 by default.
"gpu-thread" is the option -g in the Scrypt-Readme on cgminer git. Be careful to NOT put an "s" at the end, there's an typo in the help file.

When this file is done, you have to call it this way:
Code: [Select]
./cgminer --config /config/path/config.conf
For more details on the options, go there:

CGMiner will create the config for you. But you must start CGMiner. What I do is just start it on BTC by giving it a valid URL, User and Password. As soon as it starts to return shares hit "s"  then "w" then "Enter". I actually give it "w" and "enter" a couple of times to be sure. It will create a directory called .cgminer (which is a hidden directory - use "view all files") in that directory is cgminer.conf.

You then edit "cgminer.conf" as required.  If you are a Non Linux person "Gnome Commander" as Root  is your true friend!!

I'm trying to make more than 310kh/s per card with a 5850 on Ubuntu 12.04 but i cant.. :/

I dont want to switch to Win7 64bits... anyone mining at least at 375kh/s on Linux using a 5850?

I will send my first day of mining (4x5850) if anyone can help me with the proper cgminer setup

thank you.

"--config: JSON decode of file 'cgminer.conf' failed"

There's a missing
}

at the end of my example. I'll correct it.
